Trickle-Down Mentorship in Action

At BUBA, mentorship flows from one generation to the next. Through our University Mentorship Model, college baseball and softball athletes mentor our youth in classrooms, on fields, and in the community. They share their experiences as student-athletes, guide academic growth, and model the discipline it takes to succeed in college and in life.

This trickle-down mentorship creates a cycle of growth: college athletes inspire high school students, and many of those students later return as BUBA Scholars, mentoring the next generation.

A Cycle That Comes Full Circle

Our Bubble Scholars are living proof. After graduating high school and moving on to college, many continue to serve as mentors—giving back in after-school programs, supporting Baltimore City field trips, and guiding younger athletes both on and off the field. This cycle ensures that every generation of youth benefits from the leadership of those who came before them.

A Network of University Partners

With partnerships spanning universities across the region, we’ve connected our youth to over 150 university athletes who serve as role models and leaders. Together, they contribute over 1,000 mentor hours annually—coaching baseball and softball, supporting after-school programming, leading citywide field trips, and organizing service events that strengthen Baltimore communities.

Scholar Spotlight: Sebastian Harris

Class of 2025, Paul Laurence Dunbar High School
Sebastian Harris is the embodiment of what it means to be a Buba Scholar. A standout student and leader, Sebastian has mentored youth of all ages, from elementary students to his high school peers. His presence at nearly every service event reflected his deep commitment to giving back, and his impact was felt across classrooms, community spaces, and the ballfield.
Upon graduating from Dunbar in 2025, Sebastian became part of the incoming freshman class at Lincoln University, where he now serves as Student Body President for the Class of 2029. His journey shows what’s possible when mentorship, hard work, and opportunity come together.
